Minivan Sales Figures In America - June 2013 YTD

1995 Honda Odyssey
It's Grown Up A Bit
After tumbling 6.6% through five months, America's minivan market finally showed signs of better health in June 2013.

Yet the 2135-unit rise came in spite of declines which were reported by four vans, one of which is returning to the market after a brief hiatus, one of which is near death, one of which carries the banner for minivans.

But that last van, the Dodge Grand Caravan, ranks third among minivans this year as sales have fallen 14%.

Stirred up by a 26% increase in Honda Odyssey sales, the overall market for minivans rose 4.5% in June 2013 but remains down 4.8% through six months. The Odyssey outsold its nearest challenger, the Toyota Sienna, by 2485 units in June and now leads the Toyota by 3913 sales with six months remaining.

Together, of course, the Dodge Grand Caravan and its Chrysler Town & Country twin are by far the major minivan force in America. 44.5% of all minivans sold so far this year have come from the Chrysler stable, not including 866 copies of the nearly identical Volkswagen Routan. One year ago, the Grand Caravan and Town & Country owned 45.1% of the minivan market.

The Odyssey and Sienna combined for 48.3% market share this year, up from 43% in the first half of 2012.
