Small Car Sales Figures In Canada - June 2013 YTD

2013 Chevrolet Spark blue
In June 2013, for just the second time this year, Canadians made the Honda Civic their favourite car. Through the first half of 2013, the Hyundai Elantra is Canada's best-selling car.

The Hyundai is only 305 units ahead of the Honda. The Honda only closed the gap by 27 units in June.

When it comes to subcompacts, Hyundai has all rivals, including the Honda Fit, roundly conquered. The only competitor which comes close to selling as often as the Accent in Canada is the Accent's fraternal twin, Kia's more attractive Rio. Rio sales are up 25% this year as sales of the Accent, Ford Fiesta, Mazda 2, Nissan Versa, Toyota Prius C, and Toyota Yaris have fallen. Sharply in some cases.

Whether the introduction of the Chevrolet Spark is responsible, sales of the Smart Fortwo and Scion iQ have tumbled this year. The Fortwo sold about three times more often in 2008 than it does now. Toyota Canada has never managed to sell more than 121 Scion iQs in a single month.

You can click any model name in the tables below to find historical monthly and yearly Canadian sales data. You can also select a make and model at GCBC's Sales Stats page. These tables are now sortable, so you can rank small cars any which way you like. Suggestions on how GCBC should break down segments can be passed on through the Contact page.

GCBC isn't here to break down segments, an impossible task for any group, but to display sales data for the sake of comparison. The more ways sales data can be displayed, the better, right? This explains why you'll see the Encore and XV Crosstrek are listed with small SUVs, too, and the Acura ILX shown with mainstream cars is also displayed with luxury cars... because readers have wanted it both ways. You can always find the sales results for EVERY vehicle and form your own competitive sets by using the All Vehicle Rankings posts.
