Canadian sales of the BMW 3-Series slid 20% in August 2015, a 224-unit decline compared with August 2015.
But the 3-Series ate further into the year-to-date lead of the class-leading Mercedes-Benz C-Class, sales of which jumped 60% last month.
Canada Vehicle Sales Rankings By Model - August 2015 YTDCanada Car Sales Rankings By Model - August 2015 YTD
At the end of June, the C-Class was 1030 sales ahead of the best-selling BMW. Two months later, the C-Class's lead is down to 810 units. That gap is significant, but for the 3-Series, it's not insurmountable. The difficulty for BMW – if best-selling status is more important than total volume and/or profit – is that the 4-Series is now a unique nameplate and the 4-Series Gran Coupe steals some of the 3-Series sedan's sales. |

Total 3-Series/4-Series sales are up 14% to 9718 through the first eight months of 2015, nearly 2700 units greater than the C-Class has managed.
One rung up the ladder, however, both Mercedes-Benz and BMW are struggling to maintain interest in their E-Class and 5-Series lineups. Combined, the E-Class, the E-Class's CLS-Class, and the 5-Series are down 18% so far this year. Direct rivals from Audi, Cadillac, Jaguar, and Lexus are all in decline, as well.

Source: Automakers & Global Automakers Of CanadaGCBC isn't here to break down segments, an impossible task for any group, but to display sales data for the sake of comparison. The more ways sales data can be displayed, the better. This explains why you'll see the XC70 listed with luxury SUVs and the Acura ILX with mainstream cars... because readers have wanted it both ways. You can always find the sales results for EVERY vehicle and form your own competitive sets by using the All Vehicle Rankings posts. ^ Mercedes-Benz's Canadian sales figures combine the E-Class with the CLS-Class. Audi Canada's A4 sales figures include sales of the Allroad.‡ The XTS, K900, and Equus aren't listed here because they're not massive - they are - but because their price points position them much more closely to, for example, the Mercedes-Benz E-Class than the S-Class. Genesis sales figures here do not include sales of the Genesis Coupe (as Hyundai's U.S. Genesis sales figures do), making the comparison with premium brand vehicles much more valid.
