Small And Midsize Luxury Car Sales Figures In Canada - August 2013 YTD
The BMW 3-Series is Canada's best-selling premium brand car and Canada's second-best-selling German brand car. It has generated 42% of BMW Canada's volume during the first eight months of 2013. BMW completed 394 more 3-Series in August than Mercedes-Benz did with the second-ranked C-Class last month. C-Class sales are down 14% this year.
One year ago, the C-Class's lead over the 3-Series was 428-units strong.
Infiniti Canada sold its first 292 Q50 sedans in August, without which G sales slid 25.5%. Fortunately, Infiniti has replaced the G, and in concert with leftover G sedans and coupes, the Q50 helped Infiniti generate an 87% year-over-year increase with its smaller sports sedan. Infiniti's M continues to be a fairly spectacular failure, even during a month in which M sales jumped 95%. M sales are down 7% to just 182 units during the first eight months of 2013. M volume was at its lowest point in the model's history last year. Sales fell 71% from 2005 to 2012. |

The M's August total of 37 units compares favourably with what Jaguar accomplishes with the XF. But BMW and Mercedes-Benz each sell around five M rivals for every M that Infiniti Canada sells. The M's still gorgeous, but that's having little impact on the nameplate's ability to attract buyers. Neither will changing its name to Q70.

The more ways sales data can be displayed, the better, right? This explains why you'll see the XC70 listed with luxury SUVs and the Acura ILX with mainstream cars... because readers have wanted it both ways.
