CANADIAN SALES OF SMALL PICKUP TRUCKS (FEBRUARY 2010)
Without greatly reduced fuel consumption but with greatly reduced capabilities, one wonders at the reasons for buying a small pickup truck these days. Indeed, price would be the mitigating factor. Small trucks do cost less than big trucks.
It's amazing, really, to consider that these trucks are the large options in most parts of the world. Across The Pond, even in Mexico, people often make do with car-based trucks where anything aft of the B-pillar is chopped and a pickup bed is grafted on. Yet in Canada and the USA, large trucks continue to improve substantially with each new generation even as development of small pickup trucks grows.... but not at the same rate.
American small truck buyers are addicted to the Toyota Tacoma. Canadians clearly don't turn their back on the Tacoma, but the use and abuse of the Ford Ranger is an epidemic. Cheap wins.
