New vehicle buyers in the United States acquired 144,650 pickup trucks and 47,558 minivans in April 2012. Trucks accounted for 12.2% of the overall new vehicle market, minivans another 4%.

One-third of the trucks sold were Ford F-Series pickups. 17% wore Japanese badges. The Toyota Tacoma, America's fifth-best-selling truck and best-selling foreign pickup, was responsible for more than four out every ten non-Detroit pickup truck sales.

America's two best-selling minivans were the Chrysler twins. Dodge's Grand Caravan outsold the Chrysler Town & Country by 410 units. Year-to-date, the Town & Country's lead over the third-place Honda Odyssey stands at 374 sales.
