Small Car Sales In Canada - March 2015 YTD

Canadian sales of compact cars are down 7% this year but didn't slow quite as noticeably in March as in the prior two months.

March volume of compacts, led by the Honda Civic's 8% decline to 5554 units, slid 3%, a loss of around 1000 units. Honda previewed an all-new 2016 Civic with a thinly-veiled concept at the New York Auto Show earlier this month.

Subcompact sales, meanwhile, fell 15% thanks to declines from nearly every nameplate.

Only the Honda Fit, up 20% year-over-year, and Kia Rio, up 24% YOY, posted subcompact improvements in March 2015.

For the first time since its arrival in Canada one year ago, the Nissan Micra topped the 1000-unit mark. In so doing, the Micra outsold the Mitsubishi Mirage by 633 units and Nissan's own declining Versa by 166 units.

* indicates a vehicle which is also shown in another GCBC segment breakdown.
GCBC isn't here to break down segments, an impossible task for any group, but to display sales data for the sake of comparison. The more ways sales data can be displayed, the better. This explains why you'll see the Encore and XV Crosstrek are listed with small SUVs, too, and the Acura ILX shown with mainstream cars is also displayed with luxury cars... because readers have wanted it both ways. You can always find the sales results for EVERY vehicle and form your own competitive sets by using the All Vehicle Rankings posts.
