Top 40 Best-Selling Vehicles In Canada - 2005 Year End
This list of Canada's 40 best-selling vehicles in calendar year 2005 includes in its top nine a group of vehicles which continue to battle it out at the top of the heap nine years later.
But then there's the Toyota Echo, the successor of which has become a much slower seller in Canada. The Chevrolet Cobalt has long since been replaced by a similarly popular Chevrolet Cruze. The Honda Accord now battles the Ford Fusion for top spot in the midsize category, but midsize volumes are much slower.
Canada's best-selling vehicle in 2005 was the Ford F-Series. The F-Series was roundly outsold by the GM twins, the GMC Sierra and Chevrolet Silverado, however. The Honda Civic led all cars for the eighth consecutive year, outselling its nearest direct rival by nearly 18,000 units. SUVs were again led by the Ford Escape, which grew its lead over the second-ranked Honda CR-V to more than 7500 sales. Only four of Canada's 40 best-selling vehicles in 2005 were utility vehicles, down from five in 2004.The Canadian auto market grew by approximately 49,000 units to 1.58 million in 2005, a 3.2% year-over-year jump. General Motors, Ford Canada, and the Chrysler Group accounted for 56.7% of all the new vehicle business in Canada in 2005.
