Top 20 Best-Selling Cars In Canada - September 2011

2012 Honda Civic
After four consecutive months of Hyundai Elantra domination and what appeared to be the Elantra's sure takeover of Canada's best-selling car crown, the Honda Civic came roaring back with 4727 September 2011 sales. This increases the Honda Civic's year-to-date lead in best-selling car standings to 1122 sales.

Honda Civic sales slid 21% in September - Elantra sales jumped 13% - but Civic sales rose 54% from August levels. Sales of the Elantra actually slid 4% month-to-month. The Elantra Touring was responsible for 18.7% of all Elantra sales. The Touring was down 29%; Elantra sedan sales were up 31% from September 2010.

Elsewhere in September's Top 20 Best-Selling Cars In Canada list you'll discover that nearly half of all the contenders suffered declining year-over-year sales last month. The leading midsize car was the Hyundai Sonata, sales of which rose 25%. Through three-quarters of 2011, the Ford Fusion's lead over the Sonata is just under 2000-units strong, however. Fusion sales dropped 21% in September. Hyundai Accent sales improved slightly, up 5%, and its subcompact lead through the first nine months of 2011 grew to 6493 sales. Meanwhile, the BMW 3-Series was the best-selling luxury car in Canada in September despite sales which not unexpectedly plunged 40%.

Canada's 20 best-selling cars are in the table below. Check out last month's edition of this post here, or scan the American version of this table here.
