Top 20 Best-Selling Cars In Canada - January 2014
As it has been in the last 16 years, the Honda Civic was the best-selling car in Canada in January 2014.
But if ever there was a month capable of showcasing the differences between Canada's passenger car market and the U.S. car market, January 2014 may be it. The leading midsize car, which wasn't the Toyota Camry, was only Canada's tenth-best-selling car overall. • All 238 Vehicles Ranked By January 2014 Canadian Sales
• All 135 Cars Ranked By January 2014 Canadian Sales
Midsize cars, led by the best-selling Toyota Camry, took eight of the top 14 positions in the U.S. in January 2014. Only five of the top 20 Canadian best sellers in January were midsize cars - the Camry ranked third.
The Dodge Dart, meanwhile, ranked ninth in Canadian car sales, 29th in the U.S. Subcompacts claimed three spots in the top 14 in Canada; just two in the top 21 in the U.S. Five of Canada's 20 favourites wear Detroit badges; six of America's top twelve.
The Civic's 630-unit lead over the Hyundai Elantra in January comes one year after the Civic trailed the Elantra. In fact, through the halfway point of last year, the Elantra was Canada's best-selling car. Civic sales plunged in December, a nearly sure sign that Honda Canada was going to report a year-over-year Civic sales increase in January. The 32% jump equals 812 extra sales for Honda Canada.
Honda car sales were up 14% in January 2014 even as the overall car market fell 6%, according to the Automotive News Data Center.
