Top 20 Best-Selling Cars In Canada - December 2013
GoodCarBadCar has already produced a list of the five best-selling cars in Canada in 2013. At this time of year, you'd be forgiven for skipping over December's results, monthly results which engage thousands of readers at any other time of year.
But missing what happened in December 2013 would be to miss out on a handful of interesting stories. Year-over-year, sales of Canada's best-selling car dropped 49% as sales of its little sibling, the Honda Fit, jumped 435%. Fit sales are prone to fluctuation. (They fell 98% from 1655 in December 2010 to 33 in December 2011.) One month of success doesn't make a trend, but Honda dealers must've been happy to have Fits to sell in December as Civic volume tailed off. • Top 25 Best-Selling Cars In Canada - 2013 Year End

The Chevrolet Cruze outsold the Toyota Corolla. Sales of Canada's best-selling midsize car, the Ford Fusion, fell 14%, and it once again lost out on a monthly basis to the Toyota Camry. The Camry outsold the Fusion by 196 units in the second half of 2013.
Surging Volkswagen Passat volume pushed VW's midsizer up to the 16th position in December's results. The Passat (and the CC, sales of which Volkswagen Canada includes in the Passat's total, unfortunately) was Canada's 33rd-best-selling car through the first eleven months of 2013. The Passat trailed Volkswagen's own Golf family by 41 sales in December. |
The Next C-Class |
Speaking of German cars, the Mercedes-Benz C-Class (down 20%), Canada's 14th-best-selling car in December, outsold the BMW 3-Series (down 30%) by 154 sales in the final month of 2013. But don't forget, the 3-Series' year-over-year tally takes into account the fact that sales of the 4-Series (which used to be a 3-Series) were included in the 3-Series' total up until October of this year. Throw the two together again and the C-Class led the 3-Series/4-Series lineup by just 42 units in December and trailed the pair by 3697 units in 2013. The C-Class coupe is still called the C-Class coupe.
Historical monthly and yearly sales figures for any of these best-selling cars can always be accessed through the dropdown menu at GCBC's Sales Stats page, and for those not viewing the mobile version of this site, near the top right of this page, as well. GoodCarBadCar has already published the list of Canada's best-selling trucks, will soon publish a list of Canada's best-selling SUVs in December and in short order will also be publishing a 2013-specific editions.
