Top 20 Best-Selling Cars In America - September 2011
Invisible, but way down in 21st spot on this list of America's 20 best-selling cars sits the Chevrolet Camaro, 129 sales ahead of the Mercedes-Benz C-Class. But don't consider the Camaro and the 20th-ranked Subaru Outback (742 sales ahead of the C-Class) to be the reason Mercedes-Benz couldn't land its car on September 2011's list of America's best-selling cars. Take note of the 16th-ranked car, the BMW 3-Series, sales of which rose 4% in September. The C-Class's nemesis found 2424 more buyers in September.Far more popular than any of those four cars is the Toyota Camry, the most popular car in America. Camry sales slid 19.2% in September. That story should change once the dealer lots across the United States are filled with 2012 Camrys. Four of the Camry's rivals slotted in behind the Toyota in September 2011. America's favourite American car is now the Mexico-built Ford Fusion, 72 sales ahead of the Chevrolet Cruze. And that's including 843 Cobalt sales in the Cruze's mix. The Cruze is America's most popular compact car, however, 1476 sales ahead of the Toyota Corolla and its Matrix sibling. The best-selling European car in America last month was another Mexican-built machine, the Volkswagen Jetta. 1895 of the Jetta's total can actually be traced to the Golf-based Jetta SportWagen. Sales of the wagon were down 18% in September.Six of the Top 20 Best-Selling Cars In America from September 2011 wear Detroit badges. There are two Koreans and two Germans. This leaves ten Japanese cars, none of which are the Nissan LEAF. Not that any of the American cars are named Chevrolet Volt. But if you were curious, the LEAF beat the Volt by 308 sales in September and leads the Volt by 3304 sales through the first three quarters of 2011.
