U.S. sales of pickup trucks grew by 31,000 units, a 16% year-over-year increase, to 221,228 units in July 2015, the fourth month this year in which Americans registered more than 200,000 trucks in a single month.
U.S. Vehicle Sales Rankings By Model - July 2015 YTD
Sales of full-size models, led by the General Motors' twins which outsold the top-ranked Ford F-Series by 9900 units, jumped 12% to own 85.9% of the overall pickup truck category.
Sales of small/midsize models rose 53% to 31,096 units, or 14.1% of the overall pickup truck category. The class-leading Toyota Tacoma jumped 29% to 17,033 units, 7170 sales more than the combined efforts of GM's midsize twins – Colorado and Canyon.
For the Ford F-Series, July was the first month since January in which year-over-year volume improved. The Chevrolet Silverado and fourth-ranked GMC Sierra, twins from GM as already mentioned, have outsold the Ford by 29,392 units through the first seven months of 2015.
