Top 10 Best-Selling SUVs In Canada - May 2011
After a one month hiatus in which the Dodge Journey became Canada's best-selling utility vehicle, the Ford Escape was back on top in May 2011. It wasn't particularly close, although Escape sales fell 3.9% and sales of its nearest competitor, the Dodge Journey, were up 47.8%. Ranked fourth so far this year and third in May, the Hyundai Santa Fe posted an 8% improvement last month. The Santa Fe is a genuinely good SUV, but it helps that Canadians can purchase the Hyundai interest-free over seven years. A purchaser of the Hyundai Tucson, meanwhile, will be forced to pay... *gasp*... 0.9% interest over seven years. Tucson sales jumped 31.3% in May.You shouldn't be surprised to see red font covering the Honda CR-V and Toyota RAV4 after Japan's March 11th disasters wrenched up the well-laid plans of the country's manufacturers, even at their plants abroad. But isn't it odd to see Ford Edge sales falling 33.5%? At this time last year, Ford sold 2295 Edges and Explorers. Last month, Ford sold 2155 Edges and Explorers. Get it? It seems as though the new 2011 Ford Explorer is chowing down on some potential Edge sales. Which probably suits Ford fine. On another domestic note, combining sales of the Chevrolet Equinox/GMC Terrain twins would have General Motors in second spot on this list of Best Sellers. Here are Canada's Top 10 Best-Selling SUVs from the month of May 2011.
