Top 10 Best-Selling SUVs In America - April 2012

2012 Chevrolet Equinox LTZ in the rain
Six brands made utility vehicles eligible for America's list of the top 10 best-selling SUVs in April 2012. Increased sales were reported by the Honda CR-V, Chevrolet Equinox, two Fords, two Jeeps, and the Toyota Highlander. Sales of the get-me-replaced-already Ford Escape and the recently reviewed Kia Sorento fell by a fifth. The Toyota RAV4 was down 2.5%, though its daily sales rate was up 10%.

The Honda CR-V's year-to-date lead over the Escape has now grown to nearly 23,000 units. The Escape has but two-thirds of 2012 to make up the difference if it is to repeat as America's best-selling SUV. This means the Escape needs to out-sell the CR-V by 2828 units in each of the remaining eight months.

After dominating Honda showrooms in the first quarter, the CR-V gave way to the Accord in April. Sales of what is perhaps Honda's most famous model shot through the roof last month. And by Honda's old standard, it was America's best-selling car. But while the RAV4 and Highlander join forces to find a measly 24,548 buyers, Toyota sold 36,820 Camry sedans.

These were the 10 best-selling SUVs and crossovers in the United States in April 2012. Monthly and yearly sales figures for each and every one of the ten can be found by accessing the dropdown menu at the top right of this page or at GoodCarBadCar's Sales Stats home.
