Sporty Car Sales Figures In America - August 2013 YTD
After posting gains in May, June, and July, Jaguar USA reported a 40% drop in XK volume in August 2013. Why are these dates significant? The XK's quite costly little brother went on sale in May.
F-Type sales have been booming, and we expected to see consumers turning their backs on the older XK. Now that the back-turning has occurred, XK volume slid below 90 units for just the second time since the beginning of 2011.All 152 Cars Ranked By U.S. August 2013 YTD Sales
Also, people may no longer be interested in the XK because the hottest model looks like something that even Mansory thought only 17-year-old boys would like.
34,740 copies of the Subaru BRZ and Scion FR-S have been sold since the cars arrived on the market more than a year ago. During the same period in which Subaru USA sold 9786 BRZs - May 2012 through August 2013 - Subaru USA also sold 21,702 copies of their Impreza WRX. Winter-friendly and wonderfully practical, the WRX doubles the number of raw performance offerings available in Subaru showrooms. The majority of automakers don't offer anything half as genuinely performance-oriented. |

Source: Automakers & ANDC* indicates a vehicle which is also shown in another GCBC segment breakdown** breakdown by variant Clearly GoodCarBadCar is not suggesting that the cars in the two tables above are all direct competitors. Establishing categories among cars as unique as even the Audi TT and Porsche Boxster has never pleased a single reader, so cars have been lumped together so you can simply see how buyers looking for sports cars, roadsters, hot hatches, convertibles, GTs, and wanna-be sports cars spend their money. Greater categorization of cars would only lead to problems that automakers create by not isolating model-specific sales figures: we don't know how many M3s BMW has sold or how many Civics are Si models, for example. The numbers we do have are listed above. GoodCarBadCar is always open to hearing about the ways you would break down segments, so feel free to get in touch. Sales data for brands such as Aston Martin, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Lotus, Maybach, Rolls-Royce etc. are unfortunately not broken down by model. ANDC estimates say sales for those brands in the first eight months of 2013 were 552, 1296, 368, 176, zero, and 672, respectively. Total Maserati and Bentley volume is reported, but not by specific models.

Jaguar USA sold its first 159 F-Type roadsters in May 2013. The F-Type is tweener-priced: too expensive to be a direct Porsche Boxster rival; perhaps not prestigious enough to be a direct Porsche 911 alternative. We've left the XK with the premium-priced...
