In the last 14 months, only on one occasion has Nissan reported a year-over-year increase in 370Z sales. Yet in five of the last six months Nissan has reported a year-over-year increase in GT-R sales. The company's higher-priced sports car was up 800% in February 2012. True, Nissan only sold one GT-R in February 2011, so any improvement was going to produce a substantial percentage jump.Over the course of the last five months Audi hasn't been able to match previous-year A5 sales. Yet over the course of the last twelve months, Audi has posted repeated year-over-year gains with its lower-volume coupe, the TT. |
February 2012 Premium Sporty Car Sales Chart |
You'll notice two new members of the Canadian sporty car sales chart and table this month. The numerous direct rivals of the Lexus ISF see their sales figures grouped in with the overarching model: the BMW M3 is a 3-Series for sales release purposes, the C63 AMG is simply a C-Class from Mercedes-Benz's sales figures perspective. Numbers for the ISF are, however, made available by Toyota Canada, thankfully. Five were sold in February 2012. Eight have been sold so far this year. The same story can be told for the (very ugly) Lexus ISC, sales of which slid 16% in February. The Porsche 911 was a spectacularly popular car in February, as you'll see by its domination of the table at the bottom of this post. There were no entry-level 911s sold in February save for one Carrera Cabriolet. The 911 Carrera S found 31 new owners. The GTS, Carrera 4 GTS, Carrera 4S, Targa 4, Targa 4S, and Carrera 4S Cabriolet together filled in with 12 more sales.Sales figures for these models and every other nameplate currently on sale in America can be found by accessing the dropdown menu at the top right of this page. After the jump you'll see February 2012's Canadian sales details for 30 roadsters, convertibles, coupes, GTs, sports cars, and wannabe sportsters. Source: Manufacturers & ANDCClearly GoodCarBadCar is not suggesting that the cars in the two tables above are all direct competitors. Establishing categories among cars as unique as even the Audi TT and Porsche Boxster has never pleased a single reader, so cars have been lumped together so you can simply see how buyers looking for sports cars, roadsters, hot hatches, convertibles, GTs, and wanna-be sports cars spend their money. Greater categorization of cars would only lead to problems that automakers create by not isolating model-specific sales figures: we don't know how many M3s BMW has sold or how many Civics are Si models, for example. The numbers we do have are listed above.Related From GoodCarBadCar.netSporty Car Sales In Canada - February 2013Sporty Car & Premium Sporty Car Sales In Canada - March 2012Sporty Car & Premium Sporty Car Sales In Canada - January 2012Sporty Car & Premium Sporty Car Sales In Canada - February 2011Top 30 Best-Selling Luxury Vehicles In Canada - February 2012Canada Auto Sales By Brand - February 2012
