How'd they do it? Subaru set a Forester sales record in April 2013. So high were Forester sales that it became Subaru's best-selling model.
Add to that 508 XV Crosstrek sales - the XV wasn't on sale at this time last year - and 140 BRZ sales and you see how Subaru managed to set a record during a month in which four continuing models collectively lost 320 sales. Subaru sales grew by 809 units, year-over-year.Indeed, the 2014 Subaru Forester is proving to be a hit, undoubtedly. It ranked twelfth among SUVs and crossovers in April 2013. The Forester ended 2012 as Canada's 17th-best-selling utility vehicle.
And yet, the Forester's relative success, not unlike the success displayed by high-ranking small crossovers like the Chevrolet Trax, Nissan Rogue, and Mazda CX-5, only serves to highlight the strength of the Ford Escape in Canada. 2.4% of the vehicles sold in Canada in April were Escapes; 8.1% of the SUVs and crossovers sold were Escapes. Ford sold 2.5 Escapes for every CX-5 sold in April, 2.9 for every Rogue, and 3.4 for every Forester.
Small SUVs and crossovers are listed in one large sortable table below and are then broken down to show the smaller, most car-like crossovers, offroaders, and a tighter set of rivals in separate lists. All 249 Vehicles Ranked By April 2013 & YTD Canadian Sales

GCBC isn't here to break down segments, an impossible task for any group, but to display sales data for the sake of comparison. The more ways sales data can be displayed, the better, right? This explains why you'll see the Santa Fe and Sorento listed with midsize SUVs - they're stuck in between in terms of size - as well as vehicles like the Wrangler and Xterra listed both here and there. The Buick Encore and Subaru XV Crosstrek and their gang are also listed with mainstream cars, because they're sitting on a fence between SUVs and traditional passenger cars. You can always find the sales results for EVERY vehicle and form your own competitive sets by using the All Vehicle Rankings posts.
