Thanks to big gains from many mid-level players (Dart, 3, Impreza, for example), meaningful improvements from higher-volume sedans (Corolla, Elantra, Sentra), and increasingly useful increases from low-volume compacts (Forte, Lancer, Golf), the category has overcome declines from the Volkswagen Jetta, Chevrolet Cruze, and Honda Civic. |

Their smaller siblings, however, aren't moving forward at nearly the same pace. Category-wide subcompact volume is down 9% as the massive declines from the Chevrolet Sonic, Fird Fiesta, Kia Rio, and Mazda 2 haven't been matched by consequent increases on the part of the steadily more popular cars.
Mini is now reporting an even greater breakdown of Cooper sales, visible in this month's year-to-date rankings of every vehicle and brand. Besides the 540 Clubmans, Convertibles, Coupes, and Roadsters sold, BMW USA also declared 2126 Cooper Hardtop 2-door sales and 1509 sales of the 4-door Cooper Hardtop. GCBC officially appreciates the transparency.

Source: Automakers & ANDC* vehicle also displayed in another GCBC segment breakdownGCBC isn't here to break down segments, an impossible task for any group, but to display sales data for the sake of comparison. The more ways sales data can be displayed, the better. This explains why you'll see the Encore and XV Crosstrek are listed with small SUVs, too, and the Acura ILX shown with mainstream cars is also displayed with luxury cars... because readers have wanted it both ways. You can always find the sales results for EVERY vehicle and form your own competitive sets by using the All Vehicle Rankings posts.
