Small And Midsize Luxury Car Sales In Canada - June 2015 YTD
If the new XC90 is to be Volvo's saviour, it will help if Volvo can continue to assist the XC90 with sales of, well, other products.
But in June 2015 in Canada, as XC90 volume more than doubled to 98 units, no Volvo passenger car model achieved as many sales as that flagship SUV. The S60 and S80 sedans and the V60 and XC70 wagons combined for 220 sales (just 42% of Volvo sales), a 43% year-over-year decline.
Canada Vehicle Sales Rankings By Model - June 2015 YTDCanada Car Sales Rankings By Model - June 2015 YTD
Volvo's top-selling car was the V60 wagon with 97 sales, one sale less than the XC90 managed. Volvo's smaller XC60 crossover, meanwhile, with 203 sales in June, nearly outsold the whole Volvo car lineup.
Of course, we haven't seen the full impact of the XC90 yet. It only arrived in May. But we are fully aware of the status of Volvo's cars, sales of which tumbled 15% in the first-half of 2015. |

Incidentally, each of Canada's three best-selling premium brand cars outsold the whole Volvo brand in June. And we don't mean combined. The Mercedes-Benz C-Class outsold Volvo on its own. So did BMW's 3-Series. So did BMW's 4-Series.

Source: Automakers & Global Automakers Of CanadaGCBC isn't here to break down segments, an impossible task for any group, but to display sales data for the sake of comparison. The more ways sales data can be displayed, the better. This explains why you'll see the XC70 listed with luxury SUVs and the Acura ILX with mainstream cars... because readers have wanted it both ways. You can always find the sales results for EVERY vehicle and form your own competitive sets by using the All Vehicle Rankings posts. ^ Acura combines sales figures of the outgoing RL with the new RLX. Mercedes-Benz's Canadian sales figures combine the E-Class with the CLS-Class. Audi Canada's A4 sales figures include sales of the Allroad.‡ The XTS, K900, and Equus aren't listed here because they're not massive - they are - but because their price points position them much more closely to, for example, the Mercedes-Benz E-Class than the S-Class. Genesis sales figures here do not include sales of the Genesis Coupe (as Hyundai's U.S. Genesis sales figures do), making the comparison with premium brand vehicles much more valid.
