September 2012 Small Luxury SUV Sales And Midsize Luxury SUV Sales In America
There are plenty of bits which aren't shared between the three, but the Audi Q7, Porsche Cayenne, and Volkswagen Touareg are most definitely related. One thing which was shared between the VW Group's trio of higher-end sport-utility vehicles in September 2012
was massive year-over-year U.S. sales gains. |

Q7 sales shot up 95%, or 511 units. Cayenne sales rose 47%, or 440 units. Touareg sales increased 26%, or 172 units. It was the Cayenne's best month since April. Compared with September 2010, Touareg sales were up 158%. Porsche says almost 20% of the Cayennes sold in America in September were diesels. 32.4% of all U.S. Q7 sales in September were diesels. HybridCars.com says Volkswagen USA sold five Touareg Hybrids and 454 Touareg TDIs.
So it was a successful month for Volkswagen and its premium sellers of SUVs. In total, 3249 Q7s, Cayennes, and Touaregs were sold or leased. Then again, Lexus sold 7046 copies of the less costly RX350 and RX400h, Acura MDX sales hit 4692, and more pertinently, BMW sold 3850 X5s. And X5 sales were down in September.U.S. Sept. BMW also sold 4604 small X models: 1570 X1s and 3034 X3s. Neither is class-leading - Mercedes-Benz GLK sales jumped to 3206 units in September, the Cadillac SRX and aforementioned RX are far more popular - but X3 sales are up substantially this year. In part because of the X3 and X1, X-brand BMWs accounted for 42% of all BMW USA sales in September 2012.
