Canadian minivan sales jumped 17% in February 2014 as the most popular van, Dodge's Grand Caravan, reported a 24% year-over-year sales increase.
The Grand Caravan accounted for nearly six out of every ten minivans sold in Canada last month. Together with its twin from Chrysler, the Town & Country, the pair owned 68.5% of the minivan category.
Exclude the trio of properly mini-minivans - Orlando, Rondo, 5, sales of which rose 22.1% to 883 in February - from the total and the Grand Caravan and Town & Country owned 78.9% of the minivan segment, up from 75.1% in February 2013.
Sales of these bigger minivans grew 15.9% to 5788 in February. They were up 5.5% to 10,225 year-to-date. 6.3% of the new vehicles sold in Canada in February 2013 are visible in this post, up from 5.5% a year ago. That compares with 3.2% in the United States where the Rondo and Orlando aren't sold.
