Canadian minivan sales slid 7.1% in 2013 as segment leaders declined and basement dwellers disappeared. The Dodge Grand Caravan continued as Canada's top-selling minivan in December and in 2013.
The Chrysler/Dodge twins - Town & Country and Grand Caravan - owned 60.1% of the Canadian minivan market in 2013, up from 56.9% in 2012 when Chrysler Canada wasn't pushing the Town & Country. Minivan sales in Chrysler's Canadian showrooms were down just 0.7% as a result. • All 257 Vehicles Ranked By 2013 Canadian Sales
The Town & Country ranked fourth among minivans, behind the second-ranked Toyota Sienna and third-ranked Honda Odyssey. The Odyssey joined the Town & Country as the only non-SUV people carriers to sell more often in 2013 than in 2012.There are really two minivan categories in Canada. (The Kia Rondo and Chevrolet Orlando (no sliding doors!) aren't available in the United States.) Together with the Mazda 5, sales of these properly mini minivans fell 63% from 1262 in December 2012 to 468 in December 2013 and fell 36% from 18,782 in calendar year 2012 to 11,952 in 2013.
Sales of full-size minivans, a misnomer if ever there was one, grew 10% from 4154 in December 2012 to 4573 in December 2013 and fell just 0.1% to 78,694 in calendar year 2013 from 78,765 in 2012. Excluding the mini trio, the Windsor, Ontario-built Chrysler twins owned 70.1% of the full-size minivan market in 2013, down from 70.5% in 2012.
