Midsize Car Sales In Canada - January 2014
Symptomatic of a car market which declined 6%, midsize car sales in Canada fell 27% in January 2014. Nearly every nameplate in the category, save for Subaru's Legacy and the Volkswagen Passat, reported lower sales last month than they did a year ago.
Besides the Suzuki Kizashi's disappearance and resulting 100% drop, the worst decline belonged to the Mazda 6, Canada's fourth-worst-selling vehicle in January 2014. • All 248 Vehicle Ranked By January 2014 U.S. Sales

The Mazda 6 was recently crowned Canadian Car Of The Year by AJAC and received a glowing review here at GoodCarBadCar, but Canadians don't want it. Well, a few Canadians want a new Mazda 6, but they're far fewer in number than the group of Canadians who wanted a new Mazda 6 a year ago. In 2013, Mazda 6 volume fell 64% from 2005 levels. Clearly 2014 is off to a much worse start.
The best-selling midsize car in Canada in 2013 and during the month of January 2014, the Ford Fusion, outsold the Mazda 6 by an 8-to-1 count last month. But like the 6, Fusion sales slid sharply in January. Sales of the Buick Regal, Chevrolet Malibu, and the likely-soon-to-disappear Dodge Avenger all were more than chopped in half, year-over-year. Improvements from the Chevrolet Volt and Nissan Leaf weren't significant enough to help their group of exclusively hybrid/electric nameplates produce year-over-year gains last month, either. Total Toyota Prius sales were down 10% in January; Ford C-Max sales slid 60% to the lowest level since November 2012.

The more ways sales data can be displayed, the better, right? This explains why you'll see the Outback and Venza listed with midsize SUVs, too... because readers have wanted it both ways.
