Americans registered 5289 more full-size, mainstream brand, truck-based sport-utility vehicles in May 2013 than in May 2012.
The GMC Yukon XL posted a 3267-unit increase that more than covered up for the shorter-wheelbased GMC Yukon's 690-unit slide. Combined, sales of the Chevrolet Suburban and Tahoe rose by 2250 units.
GM's quartet owned 76% of the large SUV category in May 2013, up from 72% a year ago.
Through five months, these seven SUVs account for 1.6% of America's new vehicle market. The Ford F-Series, Chevrolet Silverado, and Ram P/U all sold more often than the whole large SUV category. On the other hand, the Chevrolet Tahoe sells with the same frequency as the Chevrolet Sonic, America's best-selling subcompact in May.All 89 SUVs Ranked By U.S. Sales - May/2013 YTD
