Just before the W222 Mercedes-Benz S-Class arrived, October 2013 sales of the outgoing W221 S-Class took a dive in Canada. (And in the U.S., only one month earlier.) Canadian sales of the S-Class fell 77% in October 2013. It still outsold the Audi A8 and Jaguar XJ.
Indeed, through ten months, the S-Class (and its soon-to-be-renamed CL-Class coupe offshoot) have outsold the A8, BMW 7-Series, XJ, Lexus LS, and Porsche Panamera.
The BMW 6-Series, now available as a coupe, convertible, and sedan, isn't traditionally thought of as a direct rival to these luxo-barges, but it's priced like them. With all three bodystyles, the 6-Series has outsold the S-Class and, obviously, all the others, as well.
For the record, Audi has sold 593 copies of its A7 this year. Mercedes-Benz Canada's sales reporting combines figures for the $85,000-$122,250 CLS-Class with figures of the lesser E-Class.
Watch for a big increase in S-Class sales soon. Mercedes-Benz USA reported a 75% year-over-year increase in October.

GCBC isn't here to break down segments, an impossible task for any group, but to display sales data for the sake of comparison. The more ways sales data can be displayed, the better, right? This explains why you'll see the BMW 6-Series here as well as with sporty cars... because readers have wanted it both ways. You can always find the sales results for EVERY vehicle and form your own competitive sets by using the All Vehicle Rankings posts. Sales data for brands such as Aston Martin, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Lotus, Rolls-Royce etc. are unfortunately not made available in Canada. Tesla doesn't release a monthly Model S sales report, either, but we do know that Tesla sold 504 copies of the Model S in the first nine months of 2013. ANDC estimates for Ferrari and Lamborghini were 18 and 4, respectively in October. Total Maserati and Bentley volume is reported, but not by specific models. GoodCarBadCar removed the Audi A7 from this post - still showing it with midsize luxury cars - as its Canadian pricing bears much more resemblance to, for example, the E-Class and 5-Series than it does to the S-Class or 7-Series . Mercedes-Benz's Canadian sales figures join the CLS-Class with the E-Class.
