Audi, BMW, Jaguar, Lexus, Mercedes-Benz, and Porsche combined to sell 5630 of their most expensive sedans (and 6-Series two-doors) in May 2013.
More than one in five of those sales occurred in Mercedes-Benz showrooms. S-Class volume rose 16% in May and is up 19% this year in advance of a new model's arrival in the coming months.
Bigger year-over-year gains were reported by Lexus. 8% of Lexus car sales in May came from the LS, a greater role, volume-wise, than is played by the S-Class at Mercedes-Benz or the A8 in Audi showrooms or the 7-Series for BMW. Jaguar's XJ and the Porsche Panamera are small fish, but they swim in smaller ponds.
Hybridcars.com estimates that Tesla Model S sales reached 2000 in May; 8850 through five months, Autodata estimates 1425 Tesla May sales. Bentley and Maserati sold 189 and 226 cars in May, respectively. Big luxury cars with significantly lower prices (XTS, MKS, Equus) are displayed with midsize luxury cars, many of which are sized rather differently.
