Kia Cee'd ISG Models with up to 15% Fuel Savings to arrive in Europe this Spring

Kia has begun full scale production of the six new Cee'd ISG (Idle Stop & Go) models at its European facility in Zilina, Slovakia with left-hand-drive cars set to hit showrooms during the spring. Customers in the UK will have to wait until right-hand-drive production starts towards the end of the year. The ISG system automatically switches the engine off when the car is stopped in traffic, and on again, when traffic moves, cutting fuel consumption and emissions by up to 15%.

In everyday mixed driving over town, country and motorway routes, the officially measured fuel saving is 6% on the combined cycle. In Europe, the Cee'd ISG cars will be available with a choice of 1.4-litre and 1.6-litre gasoline engines and three bodystyles, five-door hatchback, five-door station wagon and the three-door pro_cee'd.

Later in the year, Kia plans to introduce a similar ISG technology for the 1.6-litre diesel Cee'd models while the Start and Stop tech will appear on other Kia models in 2010 and beyond in numerous markets outside of Europe as well.
