In Suffolk, VA on the James River, you’ll find this combination bridge tunnel. It was originally built so that it wouldn't disrupt shipping lanes. Apparently, the bridge underwent some serious flooding problems during Hurricane Isabel back in 2003. No matter how brilliant engineering may seem, mother nature still wins in the end.
