Auto Union Type D rumoured to be withdrawn from Christies Auctions due to doubts on its authenticity!
Remember a few weeks ago when we reported about the historic 1939 Auto Union Type D going on auction by Christies? Well, although the car seems to be listed at the auction-site, according to Hemmings Auto Blog, Christies announced that it withdraw the Auto Union Type D from Friday’s Retromobile Sale in Paris so they can “further explore into the car’s race history, in collaboration with Audi Traditionâ€. Of course many of you will think, that’s another way of saying “we are questioning its authenticity†or to be blunt, “it’s a fakeâ€.
However, as Daniel Strohl rightly notes, how authentic would you expect a reconstructed 1939 automobile to be? Not much, so does that make it a fake? No, but if the specific car didn’t actually take part in races, that'll significantly depreciate its value which was estimated at about 8.8 to 12 million EUR. Via: Hemmings Auto Blog
