U.S. November Sales Down 36.7%: Ford, Toyota, Honda Tumble More than 30%, GM and Chrysler over 40%


Car sales in the U.S. continued to dive in November with most major automakers reporting more than 30% drop in sales. The glum results come on the same day that the Big Three submitted their proposals to Congress in an effort to win a $25 billion government loan. Chrysler LLC "led the way" with a terrifying 47% decrease to 85,260 cars and trucks while GM reported sales of 154,877 vehicles, down 41% compared with a year ago. Ford's sales total plummeted 32.6% to 123,222 units while Toyota recorded a 33.9% plunge to 130,307 vehicles.

Among the other automakers, BMW saw its U.S. November sales drop by 26.8% from the same month in 2007, Volvo reported a 46.5% decline, the Hyundai Group a 38.6% fall, Mazda was down 31.3%, Nissan recorded a 42.2% decrease and the VW Group, a 27.0% fall. Subaru managed to limits its losses reporting a moderate 7.8% drop in sales. Overall, according to the Automotive News Data Center, total vehicles sales in the U.S. in November were down 36.7% from a year ago to 747.544 units.
