Through the first quarter of 2015, the Volkswagen Jetta and Volkswagen Golf combined to outsell Canada's best-selling car, the Honda Civic. Granted, that's a somewhat unfair conclusion: the Jetta was once just a be-trunked Golf, but the cars ride on different platforms now. One could argue that the Civic, together with the Fit, for example, outsold the Golf and Jetta.

But after Volkswagen Canada's outstanding March, it's difficult to ignore the increasing strength of the VW compacts. Brand-wide sales jumped 73% to a best-ever March of 6950 sales, equal to 4.3% market share, more than double the share garnered by VW USA in March. 16% of the Golfs sold in March were GTIs; the overall Golf line was Canada's 19th-best-selling nameplate and seventh-best-selling car. The Jetta ranked 13th and 5th, respectively, in those two categories.

The F-Series and Ram alone outsold the whole Volkswagen division; GMC, Dodge, Mazda, Kia, Jeep, and many others, as well. The Ford F-Series is Canada's best-selling vehicle. 2015's third month marked the best March ever for the second-ranked Ram.
