A dominant July from the Honda CR-V wasn't enough to unseat the Ford Escape as America's best-selling SUV so far this year. The list below, America's Top 10 Best-Selling SUVs in July 2010, is nearly full of cute-utes and crossovers, so the term SUV is thrown around loosely. Nevertheless, no other non-car or non-truck came close to matching the Honda CR-V's sales total last month. The Escape leads by about 6,700 with five months of 2010 remaining.
As usual, Lexus's RX was the only luxury automaker close to cracking the Top 10. The RX out-sold the relatively similar Toyota Highlander by a few hundred units in July. That says something for the Kia Sorento, then, doesn't it? The Korean upstart is seriously hawt stuff in both the U.S. and Canada, beating out mainstream competitors like the Highlander, Hyundai Santa Fe, Ford Explorer, Nissan Murano, and many other supposedly high-volume utility vehicles.
Domestic manufacturers and Asian manufacturers split the Top 10 50/50 in July. The midsize Ford Edge and Chevrolet Traverse were joined by the smaller Ford Escape and Chevrolet Equinox as well as the rugged Jeep Wrangler.
