Small SUV Sales Figures In Canada - June 2013 YTD

2013 Mazda CX-5
The Ford Escape's 913-unit victory over the Honda CR-V in June 2013 came about as Escape sales improved on a year-over-year basis for the fifth time this year. Honda CR-V sales have fallen on four occasions in 2013.

The second-ranked Toyota RAV4 - 83 sales up on the CR-V - has reported huge YOY increases since January's 53% drop: 60% in February, 96% in March, 36% in April, 28% in May, and then June's 39% improvement.

Chevrolet reported its highest-volume Trax sales month since the model went on sale in December. The Trax outsold the Jeep Compass and Patriot, Volkswagen Tiguan, Mitsubishi RVR and Outlander, Subaru XV Crosstrek, and Kia Sportage, among others. Keep in mind, the Trax and the five other utility vehicles shown in the second table below, when combined, don't sell as often as the Escape, CR-V, or RAV4.

Another recent small crossover entry, the Mazda CX-5, continues to sell much better in Canada than it does in the United States, as Mazdas are wont to do. The CX-5 is Canada's 25th-best-selling vehicle overall, America's 66th-best-selling vehicle. CX-5 volume is a little more than four times higher in the United States. The U.S. market is nearly nine times the size of the Canadian market.

GCBC isn't here to break down segments, an impossible task for any group, but to display sales data for the sake of comparison. The more ways sales data can be displayed, the better, right? This explains why you'll see the Santa Fe and Sorento listed with midsize SUVs - they're stuck in between in terms of size - as well as vehicles like the Wrangler and Xterra listed both here and there. The Buick Encore and Subaru XV Crosstrek and their gang are also listed with mainstream cars, because they're sitting on a fence between SUVs and traditional passenger cars. You can always find the sales results for EVERY vehicle and form your own competitive sets by using the All Vehicle Rankings posts.
