Midsize Car Sales Figures In Canada - August 2013 YTD

2013 Honda Accord sedan burgundy
For the seventh time this year, the Ford Fusion was Canada's best-selling midsize car. Its 57% year-over-year improvement was bettered only by the second-ranked Honda Accord's 71% jump and the ninth-ranked Dodge Avenger's 82% increase.

Combined, the Avenger and its fraternal twin from Chrysler, the 200, have collected 15,356 Canadian sales this year, slightly more than what Ford has managed with the Fusion. (The Fusion's upmarket Lincoln twin, the MKZ, adds 938 units to the Fusion's 15,246-unit eight-month total.)

The Avenger and 200 both compete in a very low price bracket, where the competition is just as likely to be Ford's Focus as it is to be Ford's Fusion.

Hyundai and Kia's midsize total has fallen to 17,604 through the first two-thirds of 2013, an 11% drop from what the Korean pair managed during the first two-thirds of 2012.

Unlike the Optimas Americans buy, the Kia Optimas sold in Canada are assembled in Korea, not Georgia. Our Hyundai Sonatas do, however, come from Montgomery, Alabama.

Through the first eight months of 2013, sales of conventional midsize cars from 14 different brands are up 5.2% to 94,418 units. This 4666-unit improvement has occurred despite declining sales among nine different midsize providers thanks in large part to a huge uptick in Accord sales, which have risen by 7027 units.

You can click any model name in the tables below to find historical monthly and yearly Canadian auto sales data. You can also select a make and model at GCBC's Sales Stats page. These tables are now sortable, so you can rank midsize cars any which way you like. Suggestions on how GCBC should break down segments can be passed on through the Contact page.

GCBC isn't here to break down segments, an impossible task for any group, but to display sales data for the sake of comparison. The more ways sales data can be displayed, the better, right? This explains why you'll see the Outback and Venza listed with midsize SUVs, too... because readers have wanted it both ways. You can always find the sales results for EVERY vehicle and form your own competitive sets by using the All Vehicle Rankings posts.
