May 2013 Canada SUV And Crossover Sales Rankings - Top 86 Best-Selling SUVs In Canada - Every SUV Ranked

2013 Ford Escape red
29% of the new vehicles sold in Canada in the first five months of 2013 were SUVs or crossovers of some kind. Surprising though it may sound, only 41% of the SUV/CUV market is owned by the Chrysler Group, Ford Motor Company, and General Motors.

The Detroit Three, including the Fiat 500s which are sold in Chrysler's Canadian showrooms, own 46% of the overall new vehicle market and 93% of the pickup truck market.

And 26% of the passenger car sales shown in this morning's earlier list.

All 250 Vehicles Ranked By May/2013 YTD Canadian Sales

37% of all Detroit Three sales in Canada come from pickup trucks. But don't take all this to mean that Detroit can't do successful SUVs and crossovers, and don't for a second believe it's a reflection on poor overall SUV sales. Canada's overall new vehicle market is up 2.4% this year - utility vehicle sales are up 5.6% through the first five months of 2013.

Nine different brands are represented in the top 10. The Ford Escape, Canada's leading SUV, is up 12% this year and is 3763 sales ahead of the next-best-selling Toyota RAV4. The RAV4 will battle it out with the Honda CR-V for second place for the remainder of the year. Top spot has been righteously claimed.

These are year-to-date rankings, but you can sort SUVs by May volume by clicking the May 2013 column header, or you can rank SUVs by improvements or declines using the % columns. Or, most importantly, you can list automakers together by selecting the SUV/Crossover column header. Just remember, the list is horizontally flipped from the norm: YTD on the left, monthly data on the right.

As always, you can find historical monthly and yearly sales figures for any of these vehicles by selecting a make and model at GCBC's Sales Stats page.

Red font indicates year-over-year declining sales
Italicized unranked lines are nothing more than available breakdowns, already included in the model's total, not in addition to the model's total. Sales data for brands such as Ferrari, Lamborghini are unfortunately not broken down by model. ANDC estimates say sales for those brands in May 18 and 4, respectively. Total Maserati and Bentley volume is reported, but not by specific models.

* Notes: Total Santa Fe volume is up 24% to 11,158 this year, up 28% to 2723 in May.
