To say the Ford Expedition was the best-selling full-size SUV in Canada in 2013 is a lot like saying the Honda Odyssey was the best-selling minivan in America in 2013. Factually accurate, but quite misleading.
The Chrysler Town & Country and Ddoge Grand Caravan share more than a platform. They're identical twins, and they easily outsell the Honda Odyssey in the United States. Likewise, the Chevrolet Suburban, Chevrolet Tahoe, GMC Yukon, and GMC Yukon XL are quadruplets: two vehicles with two wheelbases, not unlike the Expedition and its two wheelbases.
Combined, the four GM utilities owned 65% of the full-size SUV market in Canada last year, up from 58% in 2012. Indeed, the Chevrolet Tahoe, on its own, came within seven sales of outselling the Ford Expedition in 2013 after trailing the Expedition by 764 sales in 2012. GM sells more than three Suburbans, Tahoes, and Yukon/XLs for every one Expedition Ford Canada sells.
To be even more frank, we must include premium brands before crowning a top seller. Mercedes-Benz's GL-Class is more popular than any of these full-size utility vehicles, and while it's not based on a North American-market pickup truck, the GL is definitely large, and it's definitely an SUV.
