Mercedes-Benz USA reported its seventh consecutive month of year-over-year S-Class sales improvement in April 2014.
The S-Class is the freshest face in a segment that favours fresh faces. The S-Class outsold the Lexus LS by a 2.7-to-1 count in April 2014. The LS, like the Audi A7 and Mercedes-Benz's own CLS, compete in a much lower price bracket.
The A7 and CLS are very much style-conscious, high-priced versions of midsize luxury cars. BMW's 6-Series, meanwhile, is available in three different bodystyles, and sales, while slow in April, are booming this year. The 6er is priced a lot like the 7-Series, a traditional S-Class rival. But the 7-Series has sold just once in 2014 for every 2.8 S-Classes.

This explains why you'll see the the A7 and CLS here but also with midsize luxury cars... because readers have wanted it both ways. Sales data for brands such as Aston Martin, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Lotus, Rolls-Royce etc. are unfortunately not broken down by model. ANDC estimates say sales for those brands in April 2014 were 102, 175, 59, 14, and 75, respectively. ANDC also estimates that Tesla sold 2050 cars in April.
