Large Car Sales In America - September 2015 YTD

2014 Chevrolet Impala red profile
As the U.S. auto industry surged to a massive September with more than 1.44 million new vehicle sales, even car sales increased, an increasingly unusual turn of events.

But among full-size cars from volume brands, sales continued to decline in September 2015.

The 2% drop in volume equals a 6% loss in terms of daily sales – September 2015 was a longer month for the industry and included Labour Day weekend sales this year, unlike last year.

There were exceptions to the declining rule, which even continued to take down the newly launched Nissan Maxima. Chrysler 300 volume rose 41% last month. The Buick LaCrosse jumped 7%.

The class-leading Chevrolet Impala posted a modest 1.5% increase. The very low-volume, high-priced, performance-oriented Chevrolet SS doubled its September volume.

But the decreases reported by most contenders were typical compared with what we've seen throughout the year. The Ford Taurus was down 17% in September; down 27% year-to-date. Hyundai Azera volume plunged 63% in September; down 22% year-to-date.

* Hyundai USA, not GoodCarBadCar, chooses to combine sales figures for the Genesis sedan and Genesis Coupe, forcing us to include the Genesis with these volume-brand cars on pricing grounds before we even get to the "brand status" issue.
GCBC isn't here to break down segments, an impossible task for any group, but to display sales data for the sake of comparison. The more ways sales data can be displayed, the better. You can always find the sales results for EVERY vehicle and form your own competitive sets by using the All Vehicle Rankings posts.
