Between May and November of last year, Toyota USA didn't once sell more than 2000 Avalons. Since then, in just four months, Toyota has sold 22,696 copies of their big sedan. It's priced from $30,990 and reaches all the way to $39,650. That's $3280 more than the base price of Lexus's ES350.
Toyota sold more Avalons in March 2013 than in any month in the last seven years. The main rivals which sold more often were domestics from Chevrolet, Dodge, and Ford.
Impala sales fell sharply in March and will likely fall further when the not-as-fleet-friendly tenth-gen 2014 Impala arrives. Dodge Charger sales dipped slightly in March but are up 16% this year. 926 of the Tauruses sold in March were Police Interceptors. Sales of non-police Tauruses rose 14% in the first quarter of 2013.
At the current pace, which is likely to increase, Toyota would sell more than 50,000 Avalons in America in 2013. Chevrolet, meanwhile, could sell less than 150,000 Impalas.
