Big cars from mainstream brands collectively rose 29% in October 2013 as the segment-leading Chevrolet Impala and Dodge Charger both reported big year-over-year improvements.
Confusing though it may be, Chevrolet says the first SS was sold in October. We're showcasing the SS in this group, not because of its $43,475 base price, but because its natural rivals do seem to be SRT versions of the Chrysler 300 and Dodge Charger.
But the SS had little effect on the size of the American large car market in October 2013. With 3743 more Avalon sales than Toyota generated a year ago and 1138 more Taurus sales, things were looking. Kia added 1111 Cadenzas to the mix, although its Hyundai Azera partner slid by 328 units to 512 October sales and the Hyundai Genesis sedan and coupe were down 231 units.
995 of the Tauruses sold by Ford were Police Interceptor Sedans. Sales of the civilian Taurus rose 26% to 5032 units.
