2010 is over. Ford is the champion. Saab isn't.
Granted, Saab only began selling cars in December, but The Good Car Guy spotted new 9-5s at one Saab dealer in a small east coast Canadian city a few weeks back. Yet they only sold 2 in the whole month... in the whole country? That makes two Saabs sold in Canada in 2010, down 99.7% from 2009's totals.
But I digress. Ford sold nearly 260,000 vehicles in 2010. More than one-third of those vehicles were F-Series pickups. In other words, the F-Series pickup, were it an automaker all to itself, would have been Canada's eighth-best-selling brand in 2010, ahead of Mazda, Nissan, and.... GMC.
Here are other tidbits to keep your mind full through the night. GM's 247,104 total sales, including now defunct brands, is more than Toyota Motor's total of 171,972, a figure which includes Lexus and Scion. Dodge and Jeep beat Toyota also, without Chrysler's help. Although close for a number of months, Honda's serious gains in November and December pushed it clearly ahead of Hyundai. The 2011 Hyundai Elantra and upcoming Hyundai Accent could have something to say about that outcome as the challenge for 2011 sales supremacy has already been underway for four days. Mercedes-Benz was Canada's most popular luxury automaker. Cadillac was Canada's fastest growing automotive brand but ranked eighth overall among luxury automakers in total volume. No European auto manufacturer was among Canada's ten best-selling brands. Two Korean badges were common enough fixtures in 2010 to grab a firm hold on top ten placement, however. Ford out-sold Mazda, Nissan, GMC, and Mercedes-Benz comobined. Apart from Saab (and its unique circumstances), no vehicle line lost sales at a faster rate than Chrysler.
And here you have it, Canada's auto sellers ranked in terms of overall volume for the 2010 calendar year. Updates with lower-volume manufacturers and Suzuki will follow.
