BMW Scoops International Engine Award For The 3rd Year In A Row With Its Twin-Turbo 3.0

As anticipated by the press, BMW’s 3-litre Twin-Turbo that premiered in the 335i Coupe, was crowned “International Engine of the Year 2007” at the ninth annual International Engine of the Year Awards, thus creating a new record as the title remains for the third consecutive year in Munich. However, that’s not the only reason why the Bavarians should feel proud as they managed to scoop seven out of 12 trophies in 2007 compared to five last year.

Peter Langen, BMW’s director of powertrain, commented: “This is a tremendous achievement and important recognition of the lengths our engineers have gone to in order to ensure the success of our turbocharged petrol engines. We are proud to once again be honoured as the manufacturer of the International Engine of the Year.”

Elsewhere, the 62 motoring journalists from 30 countries that participated in the voting handed two awards to VW Group for their 1.4 TSI & 2.0 TFSI engines, while another two trophies were given to Toyota for the Prius's 1.5-litre Hybrid powertrain and the Aygo's 3-cylinder 1.0-liter engine. Finally, Porsche won a trophy for the 911's 3.6-liter Twin Turbo engine. -Details after the jump
