GMC sold nearly twice as many Yukons in Canada in August 2012 than in August 2011. That made the Yukon a class-leader in August, but it's a weak, low-volume class in Canada. Ford Expedition sales are up 12% to 1342 this year, making the Expedition more popular than the Yukon XL and Chevrolet Suburban combined.

Enough about jumbo truck-based SUVs. The seven of them shown in the accompanying chart and table below accounted for just 0.35% of the overall new vehicle market. The Ford Escape, by itself, was responsible for 3.1% of all new vehicle sales in August 2012.  Even a moderately successful crossover like the Toyota Highlander outsold the whole mainstream large SUV segment last month. 79 of the Highlanders sold were hybrids.

Mini Canada still sells and leases very few Countrymans. The Mitsubishi Endeavor is just about done. Nissan had a dreadful SUV/CUV sales month all around. Mazda just released pics of the updated CX-9. And GoodCarBadCar began displaying the Hyundai Santa Fe and Kia Sorento, tweeners that they are, in both the small and midsize sections.
